Shimano make some of the best deep sea fishing reels. Every reel that has the Shimano name on it is manufactured to perform in even some of the most inhospitable conditions.
The Shimano Stella 8000SW for salt water is geared up for catching those big fish. I have personally used it to wind in some big Spanish mackerel off the east coast of Australia. When it comes to power, strength and fluid mechanics then I think the Stella range is hard to beat.
You should also make sure that you put on some heavy duty line when using this reel. There are also great combos that you can get this reel in. Bass Pro.com has all of this gear but you will also find some good combos at your local big fishing store.
The reel itself has 14 anti-rust bearings, gear ratio of 5.6:1 and a line capacity of 325 yards of 12 pound fishing line. 42 inches of line per crank is what you are getting with this reel. It also features Paladin gear durability enhancement, the Propulsion line management system, AreoWrap II, Cold Forged Aluminium Spool, SW Water Resistant metal body, Saltwater proof Drag, Aluminium side plate, frame and rotor. All of this plus many more Shimano quality features.
Only experience can allow Shimano to make a reel that can produce drag pressure of excess of 55 pounds. What you get from this is enough low-down torque to play enormous gamefish. All this while maintaining an impeccably smooth and fluid operation.
The biggest of ocean pelagics are no match for a reel like this and you will feel the difference of strength and power in this reel comparing to most.

Positive Reviews
“I would recommend this reel to anyone. The reel is very smooth and handles strong fighting fish like a dream. Just need to work on my own strenght now to be able to catch these big ones. The live bait worked a treat!”
by Shane F (CA)
“The reel was mostly what I expected, it is a little bit heavy but I don’t mind that at all because I know it is not light and flimsy. I have had reels before which seemed to feel cheap even though I had spent a bit of money on it. The Stella 5000 felt great winding in good sized fish”

I didn’t find any negative reviews on this reel. Some reviewers said that it was a little heavier then what they expected but were still pleased with the reel. Please contact me if you have any negative reviews or opinions. I like to get information from all sides.

[...] Shimano Stella 8000SW – Fishing With Gear That WorksI wonder why people claim to know stuff about their gear but cannot back it up with fish, where the proof is in the pudding. A lot of people pretend to know and then wonder why they are having trouble catching anything. Reading the manual is also very important because you need to know how to use the thing that you have just paid good money for. Now that is not just having the biggest and fastest boat with the most expensive motor that will have you zooming out to your favorite spot. Neither is it having the best burley and lures haning out the side of your boat.To get those massive fish that you see in all of the fishing magazines and dvds you have to have the finest of reels or if not a lot of luck with the reel you have. Having a smooth reel which can perform under pressure is crucial for those who are wanting to improve their catch. Not dislike golf, you cannot try to keep up with the rest of your friends if you are useing gear that was made in the 80’s. The improvements in the reel technology are making these changes. Shimano are the leaders in technology in reels and this has been the same way for the past two decades. If you like this article see more here: Fuel Flow Meter | Inflatable Water Toys, | Yacht Autopilot Lines and reels can sometimes break while you’re out on your boat and worst of all if you a reeling in a big one. This is a major problem. The main problem is sometimes that you have just broken off with a good sized fish but you have also a broken a reel. If it is your only reel then you are in big trouble. This just does not happen when using the Shimano Stella 8000. You pay good money sometimes for something that only dissapoints you but this is not the case with this reel. Your reel can sometimes be very sensitive to salt water. If your reel is not made for salt water then you should seriously think about looking for a new one. The corrosiveness of salt water is known to be the biggest killer of most standard reels. To be short, they are just not made for that kind of chemical reaction. The materials which make up a reel are very important and rust proof is the main thing you want. The Stella 8000SW will be your defence against the salt water and the chemicals which react poorly against the mechanics of your reel. [...]
